Despite unrest, looting, violence and clashes with police there was no evidence that a coordinated effort by alleged members of the Mungiki sect took place in the form of attacks on either Mathare or Kibera. The majority of sightings for this rumour were hearsay, incidents of looting or civil unrest mis-attributed to the Mungiki and in several cases, efforts by community members to mobilize security for the community by coercing residents out of their homes to keep watch.
